Hacienda HealthCare Dedicates New Pediatric Skilled Nursing Facility!

Hacienda HealthCare was delighted to present our new Pediatric Skilled Nursing Facility Dedication in early November. The ribbon cutting was held at Hacienda in the expansive lobby of the beautiful new building.

Guests included volunteers, staff, donors, board members, families and other community members as Bryson, one of Hacienda’s littlest residents, cut the ribbon to celebrate the grand opening. Hacienda was delighted to have such amazing community support as we celebrated over six years as Arizona’s first and still only, skilled nursing facility for infants, children and young adults.

Many of the children in our community are born with or develop chronic medical problems that require lifelong intervention by physicians, nurses and therapists. When these children are unable to reside at home or in a foster home, they are placed in a nursing home/skilled nursing facility. Due to the fact these nursing homes or skilled nursing facilities are designed, operated and staffed to care for elderly patients, children do not receive the care they need and deserve. These children need to be cared for in a setting that is specially designed, managed, and staffed to meet the medical, therapeutic, social and educational needs of children. To meet this community need, Hacienda HealthCare opened Arizona’s first and only Skilled Nursing Facility for children in 2000 at the request of various health care plans as there was no place in Arizona for children to get the type of skilled nursing care that many needed.

Currently, the need for our care and services is growing in Arizona and due to lack of space in our current facility, accommodating referrals had become problematic. To ensure we are able to help these families and their children, our Board of Directors approved a plan to construct this new pediatric skilled nursing facility which was built on the Hacienda campus. In doing so, we are now able to increase the number of beds we have available for patients who require care in our pediatric skilled nursing facility and to provide care for more children in our community.
