Creating Exceptional Experiences

Therapeutic Recreation is defined by the American Therapeutic Recreation Association as, “a treatment service designed to restore, remediate and rehabilitate a person’s level of functioning and independence in life activities, to promote health and wellness as well as reduce or eliminate activity limitations and restrictions to participation in life situations caused by an illness or disabling condition.”

The Therapeutic Recreation (TR) program at Hacienda Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) is designed to cater to a variety of ages, abilities and interests. The purpose of this program is to provide each of our residents a positive, stress-free environment where they can participate in self-selected activities.

Activities vary and range from arts and crafts, movies, music and video games, to social excursions. The TR department regularly schedules life-affirming outings for residents that include: sporting events, concerts, cultural events, shopping, and worship services to name a few.

We offer a special thanks to Sundt Foundation, Phoenix Suns Charities, Diamondbacks, Rattlers, and Thunderbirds Charities for making these experiences possible.

Viviana’s Lemonade Stand
Thanks to Hacienda SNF’s Therapeutic Recreation staff, one of our entrepreneurial residents opened her very own lemonade stand. Viviana’s Lemonade Stand held a grand opening celebration on Wednesday, May 3rd, at Hacienda’s South Mountain campus. Hacienda SNF’s TR department helps provide fun and unique experiences that empower our residents and promote creativity.

Josh & Polo

Polo and his owner Joshua Saadi have gained online celebrity thanks to Polo’s innate ability to make anyone smile. To keep this momentum, Polo, a New York State Certified Therapy Dog, kicked-off his nationwide “Spread Love” tour by visiting Hacienda HealthCare’s campus on Friday, March 31, 2017.

Surprise Visit from the Arizona Rattlers
On April 4, 2017, Hacienda SNF residents received a surprise visit from two members of the professional indoor American football team, the Arizona Rattlers. Players signed autographs, played video games and spent quality time with their charming fans. Thank you Arizona Rattlers for providing such a special treat!
